Home videos can be edited and made into good montages without too much effort, but it is a different matter when it comes to editing action-packed footage, from a GoPro camera, from a vacation in which you went snowboarding or sky diving. Sequences like these require a certain type of soundtrack, transitions and colors. Magix Fastcut was created specifically for action-oriented montages. It comes with various presets and templates which can make your movies look like you were on a real adventure.

The program is free to try for 30 days, with some restrictions. It takes several minutes to install its core components, but the operation does not involve any complex configurations. Fastcut works on Windows 7 and Windows 8 and its hardware requirements should not be a challenge for a modern-day computer.

Compared to other video editors, Fastcut has a simpler design. Once you import your video footage and choose a template, the program will load it on the main interface. Just like in other editors, you can preview your montage on an embedded player and apply effects or insert certain elements, on the upper part of the interface and you can edit the montage itself in a timeline, in the lower region of the window.

Depending on the selected template, the program will automatically cut the input video, mix the pieces, add a soundtrack and apply transition effects. All you have to do is review the montage and make a few adjustments if you want to. Once you enable the manual editing mode, you can rearrange the scenes in the timeline, change the transition effects, make all sorts of visual adjustments and more.

Montages can be exported on the computer, in MP4 or WMV format, but you can also export them in smartphone-friendly formats or upload them on YouTube or other social medias. Fastcut comes with predefined output profiles, so you only need to select a device or a web service, instead of going through a sheet of confusing options.

Pros

Magix Fastcut is capable of creating a video montage automatically, based on a series of templates. Its layout and controls are easy to understand. The program can export a montage for the PC and for many other devices.

Cons

The trial version has a few limitations. If you edit your vacation videos with Magix Fastcut, your audience will be able to guess how you felt during your adventures.
